Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

I was going through some photo folders today and came across an old outfit fave...
It made me think of this amazing woman...
There is definitely more than a nod to Annie's androgynous style in these outfit pics...
I remember the very first time I watched the Eurythmics 'Sweet Dreams' video clip back in the 80s cause it was also the very first time my mum said to me that she thought I looked like Annie Lennox's twin, at the time I wasn't impressed cause I wanted to look like Madonna.
Now when she says it to me, I think "Yeah right, I wish!"
My affection for Madonna faded fast after my tweens but Annie still remains a firm favourite of mine, if I could choose any person to do a duette with it would be her...
she ROCKS!
I wonder if this outfit would get a 'thumbs up' or a 'thumbs down' from Annie?
Vintage needle-cord & faux-fur trim coat by Spinney, vintage floral panel & cord riding style pants by Ghost, vintage  psychedelic print sharp collar shirt, vintage whipcord belt by Gucci, funky tie by Strange London, hellraiser heels by Demonia, leather driving gloves (a pressie from my fabulous sister in Denmark) & vintage mega clutch bag by Dolcis
Off to bedski now, it's really flipping late...
I will start adding some exciting new items to the shop when I get up ;)

Can I have some more...Tights Please!

Last week I got an e-mail from a lovely lass called Bernadette who works for a company called Tights Please, an on-line specialist retailer of, you guessed it, tights.
In the e-mail I was asked if I'd like to participate in a review feature; they would supply me with a couple of samples and all I had to do was to style them.
After drooling over the veritable feast of hosiery on the site, I decided that I'd be a mug not to jump on Bernadette's offer.
Not only do I get to try out some spanky new tights but I also get to go mad in the the boudoir, styling up a storm, in other words a pretty perfect way to spend an afternoon!
I was sent two fabulous pairs of tights by Red or Dead...
The tights are called Pammy & Peggy
Glorious Gussets indeed, they are silky smooth, gorgeously patterned & super comfy to wear.
I couldn't wait to get styling!
First I amassed a towering pile of clobber that I thought they would look good with and then I got down to business...
Pammy tights teamed with a 90s micro mini dress,  Dear Darkness headdress & Demonia heels.
Pammy tights teamed with vintage 50s sequin top, sequin beret, arm-warmers, hot-pants, Demonia heels & tulle skirt by Max & Co.
Left: Pammy tights teamed with 90s mesh lace mini dress, hot-pants & Frocktasia necklace
Right: 90 leather shorts by Sisley + same as above.
Pammy tights teamed with 90s deadstock Harris tweed shorts by Jigsaw + same as above.
Peggy tights teamed with 90s Betsey Johnson polka dot dress, Demonia heels & Dear Darkness headdress.
Peggy tights teamed with vintage 50s revamped lace dress + same as above.
Left: Peggy tights teamed with a 90s PVC & zip detail micro mini dress
Right: 90s floral lace dress & hot-pants + same as above.
Left: Peggy tights teamed with a 90s Versace copycat safety pin dress by Bernshaw & 90s mega platform boots.
Rights: 80s mini dress with ribbon embroidery + same as before.
Peggy tights teamed with 90s deadstock Harris tweed shorts by Jigsaw, Demonia heels, Dearest Darkness headdress & eagle/rose print skinny Tee.
Peggy tights teamed with 90s leather shorts by Sisley and a magnificent 70s sequin disco diva jumper + same as above.
I could have gone on and on with styling these but unfortunately my afternoon came to an end.
They definitely look the bees-knees when paired together with hot-pants, cut-offs, shorts, micro dresses or mini skirts and a pair of towering heels, for best effect.
They have more YOWZA than you can shake a stick at, so perfect for the upcoming party season.
If you want a pair of Pammy or Peggy tights yourself, then why not pop over to the Tights Please website, they offer free UK delivery & they've also got some ace Henry Holland tights up for grabs in their sale section a the moment, not to mention a totally awesome array of leggings.
I'd like to thank  Tights Please & especially Bernadette for giving me the opportunity to do this product review/styling feature, it's been fun!
I hope you guys have enjoyed it too :)

Jennie

Frocktasia's Mohairy Midsummer

It's been a while since my last installment, just haven't had the time nor the inclination lately :(
However I thought that as it's midsummer already, I'd better do at least one posting before June ends :)
So far summer has been a a story of starts and stops, just when you think you can push the tights & jumpers to the back of the wardrobe temperatures take a nose dive and I'm back sporting my trusty grey beanie.
We have had a few cracking days though so I guess I shouldn't complain too much...this is England after all!
We had planned to get out of London this weekend, pitch our new tent somewhere on the coast and just sit on a beach and chill-out but we decided against it as the weather forecast pretty much spelled rain in bold capital letters for most of the country.
We did go for a wee walk along an urban nature trail to forage some elderflowers and snap some pics instead.
I brought with me a few of my current wardrobe faves and a couple of bits that I have made/revamped recently...
I love this quirky 80s mohair jumper that I bought on eBay a few years ago.
It's super comfy and it goes really well with my bright orange revamped cut-offs...
These denim cut-offs were made from a pair of hubby's old jeans.
I tie-dyed them with Dylon and embellished them with faux-gems salvaged from a top that I got from the car boot sale.
The kick-ass Steve Madden boots were also a car boot sale buy from a few years ago.
Whilst on the subject of  fabulous car booty buys...
I bagged this frigging awesome camo jacket from the car boot sale a while back.
I absolutely love camo jackets and I love Bob Marley so for me this jacket is DA BOMB!
I bought this refashioned desert camo jacket from a shop in Camden a few years back.
It's fabulously fitted :)
The vintage Moschino belt was a second hand market find, the 80s aviator sunnies where dead-stock off eBay and the funky handmade African earrings were a pressie from my folks.
I made the headdress from a bunch of  deconstructed chiffon scrunchies fashioned into cabbage rose shapes and mounted on a wide padded Alice band...
My trusty grey knitted beanie...
...that I'm rocking a helluva lot more than I should be doing considering it's late June!
Never mind, there is still time for summer to sort itself out and when it does I'll be on the first coast bound train out of here, armed with my tent and sleeping bag, I can't wait ;)
Hope you are all having a wonderful Midsummer weekend.
Lot's of love,
Jennie

Diggin' the desert queen

Holiday frock number nine looks mighty fine teamed with an Indian silk choli top underneath...
******
The Frock:
This spectacular vintage 70s maxi frock was another score from my vintage dealer friend a few years ago.
It's labelled 'Penelope Peep' & it's made in England but further research into the maker has proven rather fruitless.
Every now and again I'll come across a 'Penelope Peep' frock on eBay but usually the seller knows as much as I do about the label, in other words sweet nothing.
The frock features a sweeping long skirt and an alluring peep-hole detail to the front, YOWZA!
It's tremendously sassy when worn on its own but I prefer to team it with one of my many Indian choli tops for a more relaxed and not quite so minxy style.
The Choli Tops:
I won a whole heap of these on eBay last year in a rainbow array of delicious colours.
Before we went to Egypt I was deciding which ones to take and I even picked out accessories that would match the colours of the ones that I brought, none of this is evident in these pics however because I forgot to do an idiot check before we left for our desert photo sessions and left several things behind.
I even forgot to don my armful of jingly-jangly bangles on one of the mornings, so all you can see is my Tibetan prayer bangle that rarely leaves my wrist and the blue all-inclusive resort armband...classy!
******
Up next my Isis frock ;)
Hope you've all had a fabulous weekend, I can't believe it's over already!
Lot's of love,
Jennie

The day I met Jesus at a protest!

Today hubby and I went along to the city to take part in the Occupy the London Stock Exchange protest. When we first arrived the boys in blue weren't letting anyone near Paternoster Square and had cordoned off all the streets leading to it. They were lining up in large numbers, which made it virtually impossible to sneak through but we wandered around the area until we found a chink in their armour and made our way in to the heart of the protest. It felt very important for me to be there today cause I've been very much a slacktivist of late & the truth is that sitting on your arse, simply frothing at the mouth over how unfair things are, will never change anything. Like the great Gandhi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world". I know there's a lot of sceptics out there that think that these things are totally pointless cause they seemingly achieve very little and on the surface it’s probably true, cause yes, the fat cat bankers will still ride into town on Monday morning on their gold plated stallions after a weekend of fine dining & posh pursuits but this is not the frigging French revolution and hopefully it will never have to come to that either. I for one wouldn't want to see bankers being guillotined just sharply reminded that they are part of the human race and not masters of it. I could go on & on about this but I’m not going to, instead I’m going to share our day in pictures with you…
The Latin motto of the City of London is "Domine dirige nos", which translates as "Lord, guide us"....sometimes I wonder what Lord they're talking about?!
"The world's leading business and financial centre demands a bespoke police force, which is equipped to protect and support this unique environment, and to meet head-on the policing challenges it represents. This force is the City of London Police."...Amen Corner to that!
The city is home to more than 450 international banks, it is the recognised world centre for the insurance industry and home to the headquarters of countless multi-national corporations. They all need to be well protected from the proles.
The City is not one of the 32 London boroughs. It is governed by the City of London Corporation.
Cameron's dad was a banker, so I'm sure he feels very at home in the city and has many wealthy banker friends that like to "help" his party out with no ulterior motive whatsoever of course.
An expression says more than a thousand words,eh?! Poor thing looks like she's about to burst into tears, so would you  if you read this article about the UK national debt :(
...that will not be mentioned in this years Fortune Five Hundred list!
I have a dream that an economist messiah will appear on the scene. I mean with all these great thinkers and Nobel prize winners, surely there must be one that can think of a way to sort this out and lead the way out of  this disgusting 'profits before people', war-based economy?!
WE NEED A PEACEFUL REVOLUTION PEEPS!
On the face of it things do look pretty grim but we have to keep believing that another world really is possible, one in which love, kindness & universal solidarity will prevail.
I hope this is just the start of a movement gaining momentum. Human beings working together in harmony can make amazing things happen!
It's time to pull down the temple of Mammon & throw out the moneylenders yet again....but this time around we have to remember not to let the buggers back in!
I commended this guy for recycling but he could have atleast scribbled out the web address. I'm not sure which I dislike most banks or estate agents?...och, it's a very close call!
I spotted a very colourful & glam senior lady in the crowd. I wanted to go up and ask her about her fabulous hat but she was listening so intently to a speaker so I decided not to interfere.
Today's ensemble:
DIYed poncho wrap, mottle dyed Indian pants, vintage 80s reverse batwing top, longsleeved cotton top, suede ankle boots, leather belt, vintage 70s sunnies, DIYed necklace & bracelet cuff.
That's all for this time peeps, I hope you are all having a fab weekend!
Lot's of love,
Jennie
