Buy or DIY - Poncho cape wrap

The other day I spied some rather nice looking poncho wraps on the Accessorize website...
I’m a big fan of ponchos, capes & shawls for autumn but rather than paying £35 for one on the High Street, I like making my own...
I always like to have a good old rummage through the remnants box at the fabric shop & last year I found a lovely piece of woven fabric that I thought would make a really funky reversible cape wrap.
I copied the dimensions from a vintage 80s cape wrap that my mother-in-law had given me.
This DIY is so ridiculously simple anyone can do it...
*Find some fabric that you like!
*Cut your fabric into a square; my square measured 60” by 60”.
*Zigzag around the raw edges or leave edges raw if you want a fray-trim.
*Fold the square in half & cut a slit measuring 30” along the fold.
*Zigzag or reinforce in some other way around the end of the slit to prevent the fabric from ripping any further when worn.
*If you’d like a neater appearance you could even add a plain or a decorative border trim all the way around the edges.
Like I said an easy peasy lemon sqeezy DIY and just think how many pennies you'll be saving by making one yourself.
You could even recycle an old lightweight blanket or throw to do this.
It's a really funky not to mention versatile garment and it is just perfect for autumn.

So what's the verdict BUY or DIY?

Lot's of love,

Jennie

Dear Jennie,
Yours is way better, naturally.
I do love browsing in Accessorize when I'm at the airport (we don't have one round these parts) and then picking up the exact same stuff when I get to India for a tenth of the price.
Funnily enough the first one you've featured looks like the label-less one I found abandoned at a festival last month. I washed it and stuck it on ebay and was amazed at how much it went for. No wonder!
Capes are perfect for Autumn, snug without being too wrapped up.
Loads of love,
Vix

Hi there!! Definitely DIY is more unique and stylish, your version is amazing and very inspirational! Love your boudoir items in your last post too, very best of luck with the online shop! Pricing is very erratic to do, sometimes I tend to go high, persevere and then drop the price if an item doesn't sell! xx

Well naturally your DIY version looks amazing! That fabric is great, and as with all your looks, you wear it very well.
I wore my tartan cape at the weekend and my friend said I looked like Sherlock Holmes, which wasn't really what I was going for... Oh well!

Darl I'd DIY too if I lived in your climate and had your figure. But where I live it'd be more like 'die' wearing something that hot. I hate cold weather and love where I live but I sure do miss out on wearing some great stuff.

You look delicously hot in your poncho.
I love all kinds of shawls and ponchos myself. I will make one as soon as I find some cool fabric.

DIY all the way! and I love yours and I love those boots!!! I want me some.
I reckon ponchos like this from blankets would be great to give to homeless people instead of just normal blankets Have thought that for ages am i weird? dont answer that! lol

No Nelly you are not weird, giving stuff to homeless people that will keep them warm is never weird. These are much better cause they do the trick of a blanket i.e. keep you as snug as a bug in a rug but they hang perfectly on your shoulders and won't fall of as easily as a blanket would. x

D.I.Y. !!!
Funny I just did that. I've been treasuring a red plaid throw and always wanted a plaid poncho so i just cut the slit and presto! Poncho!
