On the Buses

I am most definitely a cloud spotter, one of my favourite things to do in the summer is to wander up to the park, sprawl out on the grass and just lay there for hours watching the clouds drift by.
Today we went along to Selfridges to listen to Gavin Pretor-Pinney who is the founder of The Cloud Appreciation Society
The hour long talk was both entertaining and enlightening but I would have loved for it to have lasted longer. I think Mr Pretor-Pinney would be the perfect dinner party guest cause he is funny and engaging in equal measures.
The talk was free and if you could guess the different cloud types featured in the presentation, you were given a little badge.
After the talk we browsed the book section of Selfridges but perhaps needless to say we didn't buy anything.
Years of car boot sale buying has made it quite impossible for me to pay more than a fiver for a book, unless I'm buying it straight from the authors website or amazon.
Selfridges' prices are simply not compatible with my thrifty nature but it's nice to have a wee look.
As we were making our way back home we came across two old buses and a whole heap of bus enthusiasts taking pictures of them.
Such a retrotastic backdrop seemed too good to miss out on, so we joined the throng of "bus spotters" and quickly snapped a few pics ourselves :)
H&M tiger stripe coat, vintage 60s Chinese sign print dress, vintage 50s booties, layered tights, self-made necklace, velvet gloves and my Stockholm syndrom wiggy-woo.
I do have a black and white setting on my camera but these pics had the effect added on PicMonkey.
I think B&W is the perfect tool for enhancing the whole retro vibe.
We had to be super quick when taking these photos cause the "bus spotters" weren't really that interested in having a dolly bird in their pics ;)
Hope you have all had a wonderful weekend.

Cold hands, adventurous heart

I have no rose tinted tales from the nineties for you today only an outfit...
Vintage 70s suede jacket , 60s dress, 50s booties, 90s lurex jumper, M&S tights, knitted mohair hat, soapstone & macrame earrings, a plethora of bangly things (all thrifted from car boot sales and markets)
We went for a quick stroll around the park earlier and it was VERY cold.
I forgot to bring my gloves, so by the time we got to the park I had what I would describe as "hypothermic hands".
Last time I felt like my hands were going to break clean off was in February last year when I was kneeling on a training platform at the bottom of Wraysbury lake.
The water was three degrees Celsius and my life was flashing in front of my eyes.
Still one of the best experiences I had in 2012.
I'm absolutely hankering to go diving again...hurry up spring!
Hope you are all enjoying your weekend :)

September on speed and Odd Lovin'

What the heck happened to September, eh?
'WHOOSH'...that's what happened...like a rat out of an aqueduct!
October entails a trip to B&Q to get draught excluder tape & tea-lights,  an hour or five up in the loft swearing like trooper whilst trying to locate hats, gloves, woolly scarves and other cold weather related clobber & paraphernalia.
It is also usually the month when my hot water bottle 'Gino the Giraffe' makes a reappearance in bed and he brings with him at least another duvet, thermal PJ's and bed-socks for my poor frozen feet.
I take to wearing outdoor clothing indoors & favor wigs to keep my loaf warm.
Don't get me wrong, I love this time of year...the coziness of dark the evenings, rooms lit up by tea-lights and candles, hearty soups and roasted pumpkin.
Soon the park will be on fire with colour and for a few weeks we will be treated to natures very own art display.
I go for long walks along the urban nature trail near our house, it smells divine, just like the woodlands where we used to go mushrooming when I was a kid.
It would be so lovely to live near a forest, I'd get well into foraging then...
berries, mushies and wild veggies.
One day we will leave this dirty city behind us and to be truthful I am very much looking forward to that day.
I sorted out my wig collection earlier and was reunited with my turquoise cartoon cool wiggy-woo, as soon as I put it on a little dress-up session ensued...
Super funky vintage 60s psychedelic floral dress, lurex tights, Demonia heels, cartoon cool wiggy-woo
Fabulously ladylike vintage 50s leaf print dress labelled 'A Russell Stuart Model' & a gorgeous vintage patent clutch from  Odd Lovin'
Whilst on the subject of  Odd Lovin' I was super lucky a few weeks back when I won their giveaway...
I don't actually buy make-up very often cause I always get stuff from my mum as pressies so I never really need to but I have to say that these Lily Lolo mineral make-up products really impressed me...
The vegan friendly eye shadow is lush, the colour is called 'Deep Purple' and it certainly is that.
This is now my favorite eye shadow and I have no doubt whatsoever that it shall remain so for the foreseeable future...sorry FACE Stockholm but I may have to dump you!
Odd Lovin' vintage is the brainchild of Malmoe based stunner Tuva Minna Linn...
"She writes poetry, drinks sweet sherry and listen to 70s records. Tuva Minna Linn is the creative spirit and vintage lover behind Odd Lovin’. Ever since childhood she’s been inspired by clothing, always mixing, trying and falling in love with something new. Her heart beats for the 70s and just the sight of a Ossie Clark dress can make her cry."
Not only is she absolutely gorgeous, she's also a wonderful wordsmith and fabulous stylist to boot.
Here are four of my fave garments from the Odd Lovin' shop...
High Flyin' Bird vintage caftan dress
Soul Sacrifice vintage Indian hippie dress
Somebody To Love vintage embroidered boho dress
What The World Needs Now pre WW2 Japanese Houmongi kimono

Wicked stuff I think you'll agree and if you happen to live in the south of Sweden you can even pop along to their showroom to try before you buy...sweet as!

Have a cracking Friday y'all!

Frocktasia by the sea

Yesterday hubby and I took a trip to the seaside...
Eastbourne to be more precise :)
The sea air was bracing to say the least so a few people stopped and had a good old gawp whilst these pics were taken ;)
I'm Swedish so I'm used to sub zero temperatures...
I'm a hard-ass viking bint!
Vintage 50s Margot Paynton lurex flocked dress, Indian silk choli top, block & lace layered tights, vintage 80s boots, jet sugarbead hipster belt worn as necklace, DIYed earrings, PAK cosmetics wig and a plethora of bangles.
We had a quick stroll on the pier, when I spotted this...
STRICTLY FORBIDDEN...FORSMIDDEN!
I just had to jump off the pier after seeing that ;)
Thankfully I had a very soft landing...I landed on my arse!
After my impromtu parkour off the pier escapade we went for chips & pickled onions.
I only ever eat chips when I'm by the seaside.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that chips taste far better when your by the sea?!
This winged chip predator was scoping us out as we munched away...
It was obvious that he meant business so we shared our feast with him to avoid being covered in bird rump spillage.

A fabulously frolicksome evening followed a wonderful day...
...we celebrated our friend & X-bandmates big birthday.
Huzzah, he's an old frood now...I'm next ;)
Hope all you fabulous peeps have had an awesome weekend too ;)
Lot's of love,
Jennie

A-Z of Frocks

Over the past week I've been enjoying reading the A-Z posts featured on several peoples blogs.
I did for a brief moment entertain the thought of doing one myself but decided against it after remembering how flipping long it took me to do a similar post in the past.
I always seem to get stuck & can't think of anything remotely witty to write.
So I thought instead of doing an A-Z about myself, I'd do an A-Z about some of my fabulous frocks, much easier!
